Pulpitis
Pulpitis is a common reason for patients to need a same-day dentist in Brooklyn. This is a condition where the pulp that is located in the center of the tooth becomes inflamed. The pulp of your tooth contains nerves, connective tissues, and blood vessels. This area of the tooth is soft and helps to provide nutrients to the tooth. Once a tooth is fully developed and erupted, the pulp is considered a non-vital piece of the tooth and your teeth can function without it.

Pulp Inflammation and Tooth Pain: What to Know
When inflammation occurs in the body, it means that there is an area that is injured or hurt. Your body responds to the damaged area by sending extra blood cells to help repair the area to prevent infection. One of the problems that occurs when there is pulp inflammation is that the pulp is located within the tooth, which means it has nowhere to expand to when it is inflamed. Swelling of the pulp causes pressure on the nerves in your teeth and that is what causes the tooth pain. Tooth sensitivity is another side effect and you may have discovered too. It is vital that ALL tooth pain be checked by a qualified and experienced dentist. If you are experiencing tooth pain, contact Eco Dental NY today. The quicker we can identify the source of the pain, the better you will feel.
Two Types of Pulpitis: Reversible and Irreversible
There are two types of pulpitis and below, we will go over what each one is.
Reversible Pulpitis: What Is It?
If the inflammation within your tooth is minimal, it may be reversible. Reversible pulpitis can be caused by irritants such as a cavity, cracked enamel that exposes the dentin, or a dental crown that is not settled. This condition can even be caused by getting your teeth cleaned, especially if you have periodontal disease or the roots of your tooth are exposed. Our team is able to reverse this pulpitis and provide you with relief. In many cases, the only treatment needed is fluoride or a filling.
Irreversible Pulpitis: What Is It?
If the inflammation in your tooth is severe, it is likely that you have irreversible pulpitis. This is often due to signs of reversible pulpitis being ignored. When the pulp is badly damaged, there is no reversing it. This type of pulpitis is usually caused by infection from bacteria or deep cavities in the tooth. Sometimes, this condition can be caused from orthodontic treatment when the teeth move too quickly and blood supply to the pulp has been extinguished.
The only way to have irreversible pulpitis treated is to have a root canal performed. We know, those two words sound scary, but the procedure is routine and causes minimal to no discomfort at all. During this procedure, our dentists will remove the damaged pulp and then fill the tooth with material to reconstruct it. You will receive a crown to further protect the tooth.
